About the artist

Ceramics is a very humanistic and tactile experience.  I love the figure as it represents a vehicle of humanity.  Drawn to Asian philosophies and Shamanism I find they both focus on awareness of mind, spirit, and environment.  My work to me, is an expression of the subconscious and symbolism. In this way, I seek to look deeper within myself. I look upon each piece as that something which beckons the impenetrable shadows of madness, or the liquid flow of existence, day after day after day, (Or maybe this heart...) a wild beast caged within its chest, dreaming a dream which we've already seen unfolding before us, (time and time again.)  I find myself wondering why our post modern society is driven on a purposeless march forward, without any sense of where it's going or why it exists. Like the ocean's surface (a mirror of our perceptions) I hope to sink beneath into silent darkness and unleash the lucid dream.

Working with earthenware, a figurine is worked upward slowly allowing each layer to dry. Then it is painted with Terra Sigilatta, wood ash, overglazes and fire to cone 04.  Next is applied a variety of  stains, paints and sometimes wax. Each piece builds a bridge connecting my psyche with the physical realm.
